THE MUMMY

"The Mummy" was a personal project I started over the summer of 2023 with my partner. I wanted an opportunity to practice naturalistic and nuanced in my spare time. The idea for the character came from my love of the original Universal Monsters movies from the 1930s - 50s. I also thought the design would allow for an interesting performance, as well as some compelling secondary action with the wraps.

The Mummy was designed to reference the classic 1920s-40s Universal Monster Movies, as well as classic adventure movies like Indiana Jones

The base sculpt was done by Avery Wilt for the film "Symbotic" and then the subsiquent mold was re-used for the Mummy

The dangling wrappings are rigged with a wire and sand-witched between two piece of fabric. This allows them to be animated secondary action that nicely accentuates the overall movement of the character.

Fabrication & Design

This concept art was drawn by the talented Ami Aminatou Mbaye

The final head was sculpted and dressed by Vivian Trujillo

The original body sculpt is the same as "Zoe" from Symbiotic, which was originally sculpted by Avery Wilt. I chose this body because it is very articulate and because I thought the contrast of a super feminine mummy would make for a compelling character. This also means the armature I made for it was identical to the one I made for Symbiotic
